Research your design

It is an exciting time when one decide to redecorate/redesign a space, whether it is a space in your home or your business. Ideas begin to flow thru your mind of how you want your space to look and feel. All of those things are important. You may have certain colors that you like, a theme, or even a particular piece of furniture you may want to purchase. However the most important part of your redesign should be your research.

You should research your color choices, because different colors brings different moods and changes the over all setting of your space. You may want to consider the earth and choose a paint with low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) low emitting toxic emissions. It is healthier for you and your family.

Research the themes you have in mind, go back to where it originated from, get creative and have fun with your designs. (do keep in mind that a particular theme may not be exciting to you but after your research it may not be what you expected)

Always research your furniture selections, for many reasons: the manufacturer, how it was built, materials used and the over all price of the item(s).

apology for no recent posts

I would first like to apologize for not posting any blogs for the past few months. I had to adjust to the four classes that I am taking for this fall semester, and also get use to the styles of my instructor and the way thier tests are. Thank you to all who are patient. Over all I am passing in all four of my classes.

Design from your heart

Design from your heart, it is what makes your space unique, personalized and maybe even a trend setter. In some instances one may think that they know their personal style i.e. Traditional, Comtemporary, Modern etc. However the real style lies in your inner soul. Follow your heart and just buy what you like. The real key is the space planning how well you put it all together and make the space flow. Avoid clutter and remember in somecases less is more.

Whats keeping your room grounded?

Every space should have a certain amount of balance and harmony. Design Elements should be cohesive. If you have brushed nickle fixtures in a room then you should follow thru with brushed nickle or silver accessories thru out. If there is any gold or bronze fixtures in your space then you could consider an updated look by removing them and purchasing new ones. Now if your money is short or if you just want to save money then you could remove them and spray them what ever color that would bring your room all together. In the past I sprayed a gold like fixture Silver. It saved money, and gave my room a new updated look. This idea could work either way if you want gold, or black or what ever, just try spray paint. (The key to spray paint is to buy a good brand, spend that extra $$$ to get a better result)

This was a conceptual design that was for a charity event at the Habitat Restore. We had a bathroom to design ( ea. room assignment is given to ea. group). We choose to give the bathroom an outdoor theme with 3-d branches both painted on the walls and the roof made of actual tree branches. The orange color gave the room a pop of color. We enventually gave the bathroom a name, Citrus Spa.

Credits for this room goes to my Senior Contract Class of 08 @ Forsyth Tech Community College.

One of many of my contibutions was the light fixture, and the Bold use of the Orange color.

Design Inspiration

Whats your inspiration you when decide to redesign or redecorate a space. For some it could be magazines, for others it could be a walk through the mall. As for me i LOVE textiles, luxury fabrics pulls and room together like no other. Choose a fabric and pull colors from that fabric for colors of wood for furniture, cabinets, flooring selections, and walls. Become really bold and throw in a splash of leopard or red.

Master Bedroom

When I move into my new home I would like to buy a new bedroom set. However my finances will not allow me to do so. The room is 18' X 14'. This is a huge room, compared to the room that is in my apartment now. I envision a sitting area in this space with a flat screen and a reading area. The bedroom set that I have now is from the malm collection with Ikea. It is a platform bed with attached nightstands. It is very much in style. However I would like something more traditional. My design plans are to make this modern bedroom more traditional with a modern flare. Some for some strange reason I am feeling turquoise. Im not sure what color I will add with turquoise but I am difinitly going to explore turquoise in my room makeover. This is a great color forcast for this coming season. Add pops of turquoise to your design.
